10.20am Risk Management – Is it Worth it?
The whole area of risk management is subject to a broad review following the credit crisis problems.  Many of the tried and trusted methods of modelling risk have been shown to be unreliable or to give inadequate warning of potential risk issues.  This session looks at the current state of play in corporate risk management and suggests some of the changes which will come out of the lessons learnt from the credit crisis.  Risk management is an expensive functional area, which should be a value added function, and this session will consider the extent to which a corporate should develop risk management practices in the future compared to what must be undertaken to meet regulatory and compliance issues.

Speaker:
John Richardson
is Managing Director of Cornhill Consultants Ltd, a corporate finance advisory boutique.  John is well known on the international  corporate and banking scene having worked in investment banking previously and being an in demand international speaker on corporate finance related topics.  He is also a Fellow of Cass Business School in London, where his area of expertise is centred on helping organisations add value through corporate finance and risk management activities.  John works with large corporate and banking clients throughout Europe, the Middle East and Asia on a wide range of corporate finance and risk management related assignments and also acts as an expert witness in specialist areas of corporate and structured finance.  He is currently writing a practitioners guide to debt finance to be published by Wiley later in the year.

15:15 Creating and Leading High Performing Teams
The key theme for the Leading Teams’ presentation will be how to build and maintain a high performance team culture. The workshop will address two key areas:
a)building a high performance culture
b)leading a high performance culture

Gerard will examine the dynamics of creating an elite culture, sharing with the audience many examples of our experiences working with professional sporting teams and how they compare to corporate teams.

The presentation will address how you can build a Behavioural Framework that identifies behaviours that the team must demand of each other and behaviours that will not be tolerated. He will then demonstrate how the framework can be best utilized to create a high performance culture.

We will examine the role of the leader in the following areas:
managing ‘star’ performers who are behaving badly
honest open dialogue between team members without creating conflict
implementing an effective leadership group
increasing accountability and responsibility
reviewing performance in relation to the framework
recruiting and inducting team members
dealing with and managing conflict
understanding individual differences among the team

16.35pm: Outlook for the UK economy
The UK is emerging from the deepest recession since the 1930s and the most severe financial crisis in modern history. What will the recovery look like and what are the risks of a double-dip recession? Has the Bank of England's 'quantitative easing' policy (printing money) worked, or does it risk reflating various asset market bubbles? How will policymakers manage the 'exit strategy' from these extraordinary policy measures? The presentation will also focus on the outlook for the 'real economy', in particular, the jobs markets and the prospects for the business/professional services sector.

Speaker:
